Residential Alcohol & Drug Treatment Program for Women & their Children...

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT SERVICES

Regeneration is a residential treatment program for women and their pre-latency age children (infancy through age 9 years). Women live in the program with their children and progress through a series of four phases developed to help them learn to function more independently and overcome addiction to drugs and self-destructive behaviors. The program design requires approximately six months of intensive treatment and three months of transition to independent living to complete.

Services provided at Regeneration begin with an extensive bio-psychosocial assessment for both women and children, including physical examinations. Vocational assessment is made for each woman. Random urine testing is given regularly.

The women attending the program come with many needs which require assistance from a case manager; these concerns have to be resolved before they enter treatment or they will delay the client's ability to commit to recovery. Often crisis events happen during treatment which require intervention. Finally, participants need to be assisted with discharge planning. Three full-time case managers offer these services.

Women receive individual and group counseling. Groups provided by the program include Recovery Process, Relapse Prevention, Life Skills, Coping Skills, Parenting Skills, Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse, Library Group, on-site AA and NA, House Meetings, Family Issues, Stress Management, Conflict Resolution, and Vocational Readiness.

A Phase system guides the women through treatment in this program. Phase I is an orientation period during which the women become acclimated to the House and begin to learn about sobriety and the recovery process. It lasts about one month. Phase II begins the treatment process. Women participate in all of the above groups. They begin to focus on being a parent and understanding the responsibilities that entails. They learn to reprioritize their lives with their children's needs becoming a top priority; they learn that recovery comes before everything because without recovery their lives and the health and safety of their children is compromised.

Phase III begins vocational/educational training, job development, and efforts to secure adequate housing. During Phase III the women move into a Transitional Unit within the Program. While living in these units - efficiency apartments with private kitchen and bath - they carry all the responsibilities of daily living within the supportive environment of the treatment program. Privileges (going out alone, etc.) are afforded to the women on the basis of their progress in treatment while movement through the Phases is based on the amount of time they have spent in the program.

Regeneration provides a fully staffed therapeutic nursery, with child care workers, an Occupational Therapist, a Registered Nurse, and several MSW interns who care for the children and provide counseling and recreational activities designed to help them deal with the environmental and physiological impact that accompanies having substance abusing mothers. Infants and children are screened regularly for developmental delays and disabilities. Referral is made to Narco Freedom's Early Intervention Program when the need is identified. Quick access to primary medical care has been very important for both children and women in this program.

Staffing of this program includes two CSWs, a Registered Nurse, an LPN, child care workers, Bachelor and Master level CASAC certified (or in training for certification) drug counselors, house mothers, maintenance, clerical, and security professionals. Services are provided by culturally and linguistic-ally appropriate staff in English and Spanish. The program serves sixteen women and up to thirty-five children.

SOBER HOUSES
Narco Freedom provides sober houses for men and women attending substance abuse treatment within our programs. These houses provide house management, one meal, and a clean, healthy environment within which recovering addicts in treatment can relax and feel safe. They do not have to worry about being triggered to use drugs as the environment is drug free. At this time we have eight houses for men and two houses for women.
